Year 4 Science Day at Pershore High School
Pershore High School recently hosted a Science activity morning for Year 4 pupils from Cherry Orchard, Inkberrow and Norton Juxta Kemspey C.E. first schools. Led by Head of Science, Sarah Cox, and supported by PGCE teacher Jeremy Burton and Year Ten pupils from PHS, a fun and informative time was had by all.
Youngsters were divided up into groups that took their names from space pioneers like Helen Sharman, Tim Peake, Yuri Gagarin and Neil Armstrong, not to mention Laika (a dog launched into space by the Russians on Sputnik 2 in 1957) and Miss Baker (one of two squirrel monkeys sent into space by the United States and safely returned in 1959).
Amongst other activities the pupils were involved in a practical project to establish the most efficient fuel – ‘Rambo’ or ‘Retro – to launch their rockets. The activity was one of numerous cross-school days to be organised by the Avonreach Academy Trust.
